Dr. Roy Sandau, center, with members of Jefferson Health – New Jersey’s leadership and surgical teams.

Jefferson Health – New Jersey Chief of Surgery Roy Sandau, DO, performed his 1,000 robotic procedure at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital recently. The milestone procedure involved an incisional hernia repair, using the da Vinci® XI Robotic Surgical System. Last July, Sandau performed Jefferson Health – New Jersey’s 3,000 da Vinci robotic surgical procedure overall. Robotic surgery is known for providing patients with less pain, smaller incisions, and a quicker recovery time.

In 2016, Dr. Sandau was awarded the Distinguished Surgeon Award by Intuitive Surgical Inc., creator of the da Vinci system. He performed New Jersey’s first EndoWrist® Stapler technology on the da Vinci system, as well as South Jersey’s first robotic-assisted Laparoscopic Single Incision (SILS) colon surgery.
