Special to Local Life
Fast Feet is a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 2019 with locations in New York, Los Angeles, Boston and Detroit. Recognizing the severe need for adaptive exercise and health equity programs for children and young adults with disabilities, Fast Feet’s mission is to make athletics, nutrition and social skills development accessible and inclusive to all people.
Every year, the organization works with more than 900 children with physical or developmental disabilities and their families to deliver the following programs:
● In-school and community adaptive running programs
● Nutrition education workshops and virtual cooking classes for families
● Social skills workshops for neurodiverse children and transitioning adults
Through the sport of running, Fast Feet athletes realize their athletic potential, increase their personal fitness and push past limitations associated with developmental differences.
This fall, with the support of SITRAC and the College of Staten Island, Fast Feet expands its community-based adaptive running programs to Staten Island, located at the College of Staten Island Track. This expansion reflects a longtime goal for Fast Feet NYC: It now proudly serve all five New York City boroughs, furthering its mission to provide adaptive and inclusive health equity programs to all people.
This program location will run in partnership with the College of Staten Island, whose track was recently redone. The Fast Feet organization is so excited to finally serve families in this region and looks forward to its first week of programming. To learn more, visit www.fastfeetnyc.com/run.
