Astera Cancer Care offers standard and advanced therapeutics, including chemotherapy, biologic therapy, immunotherapy and radiopharmaceuticals along with a complete portfolio of radiation oncology treatment options, including proton therapy, prostate brachytherapy, and radiosurgery.

A prominent group of New Jersey cancer care physicians has formed Astera Cancer Care, an integrated, community-based cancer care practice. The group of 50-plus cancer care providers including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and breast surgeons, launched April 1. The newly established group provides a complete portfolio of innovative cancer therapies previously offered by only the most elite academic cancer centers. The organization will initially serve more than 14,000 new patients annually but expects to expand rapidly over the next 12 months.

Astera Cancer Care will be led by chairman and Chief Executive Officer Edward J. Licitra, MD, PhD, and president and managing physician Bruno S. Fang, MD.

Although Astera Cancer Care is a new organization, its physicians have cared for thousands of cancer patients in central New Jersey since 1981.

Drs. Licitra and Fang along with the entire Astera Cancer Care team are passionate about patient care and are excited to use their strong clinical acumen to significantly differentiate Astera Cancer Care from others in the region. Dr. Susan McManus and Dr. Lisa Hopkins have joined the group as well to provide comprehensive breast surgical care.

Although Astera Cancer Care is a new organization, its physicians have cared for thousands of cancer patients in central New Jersey since 1981. The group’s physicians average more than 20 years of medical experience and have deep connections to their surrounding communities. Astera providers currently practice at 14 distinct locations in Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon, Mercer and Monmouth counties as well as in Bucks County, Pa.

The practice is one of the few private groups on the East Coast to offer patients this full array of radiation oncology treatments.

Astera Cancer Care has a robust clinical trial platform for cancer therapy with one of the only community-based clinical trial programs in CAR-T cell therapies in the nation. The practice will participate in OneR, a collaborative clinical trial group under OneOncology, a network of oncology practices throughout the United States. OneR is an ideal fit to help enhance the group’s already high-performing clinical trial program.  Additionally, the group’s relationships through the OneOncology network will allow Astera physicians to provide unrivaled access to all technologies needed to efficiently provide personalized cancer care for all patients.

“We offer patients a diverse portfolio of innovative treatments and personalized care, often only provided at academic centers,” Dr. Fang said. “Our vision is to create a world-class, high-quality community cancer network that keeps patients close to home, surrounded by family, for their cancer care.”
