This summer, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is excited to offer weekly sports clinics for kids ages 5-14. Each clinic will run Monday-Friday for 45 minutes each day, and clinics will be divided into age groups. Participate in one or more weeks and build and hone your sports skills.
“Sports at the Y is all about building skills and teamwork, increasing confidence and self-esteem, making friends and having fun,” said Jennifer Glander, director of Sports & Fine Arts at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. “Our weekly clinics give kids a chance to try different sports over the summer and see what sparks their interest.”
Youth Pickleball: Look out, there’s a new ball game in town. A paddle sport created for all skill levels. It combines elements of tennis, Ping-Pong and badminton. The rules are simple and the game is easy to learn. Equipment is provided.
Youth Basketball: Hit the hardwood with the ones who invented the game of basketball — the YMCA. Jam packed with fun, your child will participate in basic games and fun drills, learn teamwork and fair play and develop their skills.
Y Sports Challenge: This new obstacle program will combine agility, skill and confidence in your sports star. Challenge yourself and improve your strength, speed and sportsmanship, while having fun. We will take four to six sports and time you to complete the challenge.
Ultimate Frisbee: An exciting non-contact sport played with a disc you throw by hand. It combines the best elements of soccer, football and basketball as you try to move the disc down the court and score. Ultimate Frisbee stresses sportsmanship and fair play.
Registration is open to active FSPY members at fspymca.org/register.
