SIBOR advocates for the strengthening of New York State fair-housing laws
Representatives of the Staten Island Board of Realtors (SIBOR) were among Realtors from across New York state who gathered online April 27 to meet with Albany lawmakers.
Taking best advantage of their virtual trip to the capitol, the Island real estate professionals addressed initiatives that are vital to the industry and consumers.
During a series of Zoom meetings, SIBOR members had discussions with Sen. Diane Savino; Sen. Andrew Lanza and John Turosky, Sen. Lanza’s chief of staff; Assemblyman Michael Tannousis; Assemblyman Michael Reilly; Brian Early, Assemblyman Charles Fall’s legislative director, and Alaina Hinkley, legislative session intern; Assemblyman Michael Cusick; and Tom Blanchero, Assemblyman Cusick’s chief of staff.
The Staten Island Realtors rallied in support of various proposed legislation, such as those designed to strengthen New York State fair-housing laws and expand access to affordable housing. SIBOR representatives also joined with Realtors from across the state denouncing the proposed statewide “good cause” eviction standard on rental housing with rent control measures, and pressing for the removal of telemarketing restrictions on real estate licensees in order to allow licensed real estate professionals the opportunity to provide services and information to the public, including telemarketing services, that are normally provided while not within a state of emergency.
Included among the participating Island Realtors were SIBOR CEO Sandy Krueger; President Angelo Pappalardo; President-Elect Frank Rizzo; Secretary/Treasurer Rosanne La Fata; Immediate Past President Scott Setaro; Past Presidents Georgianna Diaz and Sari Kingsley; Director Phyllis Cangro; and SIBOR members Joseph Tirone and Raymond Urciuoli.
